Electrochemical control of ions in aqueous systems

Research

We treat electrochemical systems as tunable thermodynamic environments, enabling direct control of ion activity, speciation, and transport in complex aqueous systems.

Our research integrates electrochemistry, thermodynamic modeling, and process design to develop predictive frameworks for selective ion separations, resource recovery, and water treatment.

Research Themes

Electrochemically Controlled Ion Selectivity

We develop redox-active ion exchange systems in which ion affinity is dynamically tuned by electrochemical potential, enabling selective ion recovery and in situ regeneration.

Coupled Capacitive–Faradaic Systems

We investigate how electrochemical reactions and charge storage jointly control ion transport and selectivity in desalination and energy-driven separation processes.

Thermodynamics of Complex Aqueous Systems

We develop activity-based models to describe ion behavior in highly non-ideal environments and enable predictive design of electrochemical systems.

Water Treatment and Resource Recovery

We translate mechanistic understanding into engineered systems for desalination, nutrient recovery, and selective extraction of critical materials.

We are building a new research group at the Technion focused on electrochemical and water chemistry processes.

We welcome M.Sc., Ph.D., and postdoctoral researchers with interests in electrochemistry, water treatment, ion separations, and thermodynamic modeling.
